Ciclopirox olamine in DAFNEGIN®, is a synthetic antimycotic drug substance, which exhibits a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity. It acts by inhibiting the growth of most pathogenic fungi, including dermatophytes and Candida albicans, as well as a variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The minimal inhibition concentration for dermatophytes and Candida spp. ranges from 0,5 to 4 mg/ml. The minimal inhibition concentrations are not affected significantly with the added proteins, size of inoculum or incubation period. The studies of mechanism of the active ingredient, carried out mainly on Candida albicans, revealed that ciclopirox olamine acts by inhibiting absorption of the precursor from the culture medium which is needed for synthesis of macromolecules. Ciclopiroxolamine demonstrated a high degree of therapeutic efficacy in experimental studies.
